Scent Stimulation – A New Strategy In The Marketing Sector

November 07 05:15 2018

The ability for a brand to connect with its customers and even make new ones in the modern age has gone past visual displays and extensive talks about product characteristics. It was believed that certain scents of different fragrances had the ability to influence human reasoning and perception. However, for a long time, there was no available proof or experiments carried out to back this theorem up.

Mr Faure-Field who is the founder of Equal Strategy and doubles as the only consultant in Pacific Asia specializing in the art of organizing events – where several fragrances are used to create an exceptional, consistent experience for clients – has made major headway in the area of scent stimulation. With a broad knowledge of behavioural science, Mr Faure-Field has meticulously studied different fragrances and successfully selects different combinations of fragrances for different events held by different brands.

He puts the spotlight on the use of scents and fragrances to stimulate human moods and actions and proposes it as a solution to the growing difficulty of brands to connect with their customers as well as an audience at any event. Mr Faure-Field also points out that a higher level of scent stimulation success is achieved when good music is introduced into the mix; stating that these methods appeal quite as much as visual exposure.

His study was of the opinion that  83% of a brand’s marketing budget goes to visual appeal that is, the eyes, meanwhile, ignoring the fact that 75% of most human decisions can be attributed to the sense of smell and good music has a 65% chance of changing a person’s mood and opinion. Hence, after conducting an extensive research on various fragrances, Mr Faure-Field has successfully shown that using fragrances at appropriate events can have a very positive effect on the audience.

This was used at the just concluded SWITCH event which held from the 17th to 20th of September in Singapore, where the Sensory Experiential Conference at the Beyond Pavilion had delegates immersed in different fragrances like Citrus, Woody, Musk, Spicy and a lot of other scents to keep them focused and relaxed. The resulting ambience was an aura of comfort and beauty. This proves that our sense of smell is a big decision influencer and could open a new era of product marketing.

Mr Faure-Field has in partnership with Drom – a world-class fragrance outfit – ventured into the production and design of modified fragrances with a stock of over 45 fragrances. These fragrances can also be custom-made to suit the event and are aerosolized to be delivered easily through air conditioners.

This new marketing strategy presents an opportunity for companies and brands to increase customer base and sales with more fragrances being discovered and developed.
