At Montgomery Middle School of Cajon Valley Union School District, 12 week Elective Wheel classes offer a variety of new hobbies, skills, and interests for students to explore. The Elective Wheel style of classes gives students the chance to have hands on experiences for 12 week rotations throughout the year. One of the classes that is offered through the Elective Wheel is a drama class.
In the Elective Wheel drama class at Montgomery students receive experience in stage work, acting, and improv skills. One unit during the 12 week class is a student favorite- dance! During this unit, students get into groups and choose a dance routine to study, memorize, and perform. At the end of the unit, students show off their new dance moves in a presentation to their class and families. The dance unit is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School unit and improves students’ IB traits of being balanced, open-minded risk-taskers.
Electives are important, especially in middle school when students are developing their interests and deepening their passion for subjects. Extra curricular classes like drama help students to gain confidence, find a voice, and improve on their communication abilities.
