March 14 14:28 2019

GFS Asia is a leading financial institution, with over 100 employees spread around the world including more than 80 in the Asian region. It is a private hedge fund that also provides education to clients who want to enter and explore the financial markets by themselves. It helps them to decide where they want to invest and which institution they want to use. Since the company works on a performance basis, it doesn’t charge any yearly or ongoing fees if the client’s portfolio has not performed well. What differentiates GFS Asia from other financial institutions is that it not just works with high net worth clients but also clients with smaller funds and not only popular investment instruments but also other tools like FX, Futures and other derivative instruments.

In this exclusive interview, the company’s spokesperson discusses the factors to consider before making an investment and how it has become more significant than ever to have a proper trading plan because of the easy availability of a variety of investment options.

Interviewer: What is the role of a trading plan while making an investment decision and who should consider it?

GFS Asia: Trading plan nowadays gets overlooked. Trading plan is and should be the most important part of whole investment activity as trading plan already includes risk and money management as well as every aspect of investment span.

Interviewer: Tell us something about the services you provide to your clients.

GFS Asia:

GFS Asia offers quite wide span of services :

1) Trading education and coaching

2) Service providing or consulting on investment

3) Hedge funds

4) Advisory services

We are also involved in a few projects with bank instruments like BG and SBLC. Financial business is extremely competitive and we always have to be on top of our toes.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to someone making an investment for the first time?

GFS Asia: Only invest in something that you understand. Spend some time to understand investment and the whole process and flow. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Remember smart investor will be a profitable investor.

Interviewer: How to set up and manage a trading team successfully?

GFS Asia: Well one thing we all have to understand is that anyone that is truly good at his job will be proud of it and obviously expects to be right most of the time. Now imagine if you have 100 traders that are good… Obviously, they will be proud. Now if you have 100 traders in one room or in 1 team it becomes impossible to manage and impossible to achieve any results. In my personal opinion as well as based on my experience the magic number to achieve optimal results in the team is 5-7 people. All of our trading teams (Scotland, Russia, Holland and in Asia have a maximum number of 7 people. One is the head traders and others are supporting the head. by limiting the number of people and clearly pointing out the leader we have made somewhat sports arrangements when the team actually can work properly.

Interviewer: What should we expect in financial markets in 2019?

GFS Asia: 2019 and 2020 will be a very interesting time and it is definitely good for active traders like GFS Asia. We pride ourselves to be good at what we do. We trade actively on a shorter-term basis than mutual funds. We do not have a setup yet for a proper HFT trade, I am not sure if we would explore these possibilities in the future. But at this moment we shall be actively trading in all available financial instruments. In order to achieve and maintain optimum results, we have switched from majority US stock holdings to Brazil and Russia, we are still maintaining and trading Asia markets however it looks like better opportunities are showing in other regions. Currency trading will be a big part of our funds and instruments to trade as with current tension around the globe it more lucrative and even easier to limit our downside as long as we trade stable currency against the non-stable asset. At this moment it still looks as most stable being CHF and SGD so we do think more and more trades will be done against these 2 currencies.
