Resnick Roofing Honors World Humanitarian Day

Pittsburgh, PA – Resnick Roofing & Contracting, volunteered to clean a 4-mile stretch off of Route 8, Wildwood Extension and West Hardies Road in Hampton Township in honor of World Humanitarian Day. Resnick Roofing has always believed in a strong work ethic & the ability to pay it forward. The employees of the Resnick Roofing started to clean up litter at 9 AM to commemorate the volunteers worldwide who gave up their lives for a humanitarian cause in conjunction with monumentalizing the celebrated engineer James Evans who conceived this great custom of adopt-a-highway for the first time back in the 1980s.

Collecting over 20 bags of trash in just two hours is evidence of not only the fact that the highway is in constant need of clean up but also the relentlessness that volunteer employees showed on World Humanitarian Day. Picking up litter allowed the landscape on this stretch of road to be as debris-free as possible as well as providing a cleaner environment for small wildlife. “I’m blown away by the volunteer efforts of our employees. They truly enveloped our unofficial motto of “work hard, play hard,” said Adam Resnick, CEO. “It was a great experience and a true team-building atmosphere, and we are pleased to be a part of this custom,” he added.

The adopt-a-highway program originated in the 1980s when James Evans, an engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), saw debris flying out of a pickup truck bed. Litter cleanup by the city was expensive, so Evans sought the help of local groups to sponsor the cleaning of sections of the highway. His efforts eventually led to quarterly cleanup cycles, volunteer safety training, the issuing of reflective vests and equipment, and the posting of adopt-a-highway signs. The program eventually spread to the rest of the U.S. and other countries such as Canada, Japan and New Zealand. Now each year, different organizations from all tiers of society contribute to this great convention.

Adam Resnick, Owner & Chief Executive Officer, has over 25 years in the business, working in all segments from installer, to distribution, to manufacturing, and most recently overseeing sales and distribution for the entire Southeast region for GAF, the world’s largest roofing manufacturer.
